Another day of driving lies ahead, but we're starting to get used to it—especially with only 127 km to go before we reach our next stop at Burra Gorge – Worlds End. Tall red gums line Burra Creek, and there are plenty of spots to set up camp and make the most of the solar input.
Camping is free, and it's still fire season, so no campfires, but you wouldn't anyway with daily temperatures in the high 20s.
After setting up camp and unhitching, we drove into Burra. We bought some sausages recommended by a Zone caravan owner we met at Overland Corner, who is also camping here at Burra Gorge. The 2 kg sausages we purchased are lamb and saltbush, and we enjoyed some of them that evening.
We took a 3 km drive north of Burra to visit the iconic "Midnight Oil House," famously featured on their 1987 album cover, Diesel and Dust, captured beautifully by Ken Duncan. This historic spot was once a bustling staging post for Cobb and Co coaches and has become probably the most photographed ruin in all of South Australia.
